Maybe it has to do with something anthropological, but for some reason, human beings seem to feel a great sense of excitement and wonder when they travel, as though it harkens back to a time when our ancestors may have wondered from place to place in search of food & shelter. Obviously, things have changed, and we’ve traded in our nomadic search for a place to temporarily call home for booking accommodations for our travel.
Being able to get away from the world is a great feeling, with the only real issue pertaining to where we choose to stay for the duration of our trip. Booking a hotel room isn’t the most fun thing in the world. For starters, you want to have a nice room that has all of the essentials, but determining what the “essentials” are can vary from hotel to hotel. You want to stay close to the action and not miss out (young people call this FOMO or fear of missing out), but you don’t want the neon signs & buzz of traffic just outside your window. The crazy part of the process is that we haven’t even mentioned getting a good price for your accommodations.
In some ways, it can feel as though the entire travel & accommodations industry is out to get you, and this feeling can really be the bucket of cold water you don’t need on what should be a relaxing trip. Even when you travel for business, you still want to know that you don’t have something just aching to ruin your travel. Luckily, however, hotel managers are more on your side than you think.
You might think that hotel managers & the industry as a whole are in it for themselves, but they are also aware that if you have a nice stay and few problems with booking accommodations, you’re likely to be a return customer, and that always helps their bottom line. Your happiness & satisfaction also end up being very powerful advertising, once again a good thing for business.

Be Friendly to the Staff – When calling the hotel or interacting with the front desk, maintaining a pleasant demeanor with staff can go a long way in making your stay a great one.
Have All Pertinent Information Ready to Go – Booking your stay at a hotel means knowing check-in/out times, length of stay, and dates. Being prepared makes booking go much smoother.
Booking accommodations can sometimes be a headache, but knowing that hotel managers are actively seeking to make your travel as great as possible makes booking one less thing to worry about. It is also important to remember that as a consumer, you have more influence than you think, so be active in the booking process, but not forget to be nice as well.
